Event: 3rd Annual Titanic Tea - April 12, 2014

It's April 12, 1912, and it's tea time. Ladies and Gentlemen are welcome to assemble for tea in the Café Parisien, on B Deck, starboard side.

Professionally catered by Chez Louie, at the Nevada Museum of Art, you will enjoy gourmet savories, sweets, and a selection of endless tea. Admission to the museum exhibits is included in the ticket price as well.

Suggested costume is fashionable daytime attire for circa 1912. Children are welcome. Costumes are always admired, but never required.

1st Annual Reno Steampunk Expo - April 21st, 2012

Welcome to Reno’s Biggest Little Steampunk Expo, a first event of the season to whet the appetite for the steamy year to come! Just check out the schedule of events:

11 am: Opening of the Expo: Free admission to a day of Steampunk fun! On your way in, be sure to pick up a complimentary raffle ticket for fabulous prizes, and take the opportunity to improve your chances by purchasing a few more throughout the day. Stroll through the vendors (spaces still available, contact highdesertsteam@gmail.com for details) and see what our fabulous Northern Nevada community has to offer!

11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Steampunk Undress - $5. Willing to drop a fin and to see a lovely lady take off her clothes? Now that we have your attention, join Vivian Dare for a step by step look at steampunk costuming as she removes and talks about each piece of her wardrobe and how to work similar pieces into your future costume. (Rated PG for possible profanity and mild violence while dealing with corset lacings).


12:45 pm: SOLD OUT Steam Tea - $15. A limited number of people will be able to enjoy tea and tasties provided by Edible Alchemy (creator of the fabulous cookies at September’s Steampunk Ball) and friends! Enjoy your tea in the best (and only!) seats for the fashion show.

1:00 pm: Steampunk Fashion Show. We welcome all who’d like to show their fabulous creations! Please contact highdesertsteam@gmail.com if you’d like to participate.

2:30 -3:30 pm: Thrift Your Steam - $5. Spend a little to learn a lot about spending a little to have a lot! Costuming expert, Lauren Elizabeth talks about what to look for at thrift stores to create a fabulous costume for less. She will also include some simple techniques to improve those finds that are too marvelous to say no to even if they may not fit just right.

4:00 pm: Raffle Drawing. While your presence won’t be necessary to win, isn’t it more fun to be there to pick up your prize?

5:00 pm: Close of the event. Be sure you get to the vendors before they have to pack up to go!

Undressing the Edwardian Lady - Sunday March 20th

In support of Women's History Month, come learn about the 16 layers of clothing that went into dressing the lady of the early 1900s, with Carolyn Runnells' famous "edutaining" presentation.

Cookies and snacks will be available at the cafe, and all proceeds from cafe sales will benefit the non-profit Rainshadow Charter High School.  Other proceeds from the event help support the Great Basin Costume Society.  Donations are welcome and appreciated!

The Great Gatsby Festival & Tea - Lake Tahoe

When:  August 15, 2010   11 am - 4 pm
Where: Tallac Historic Site, South Lake Tahoe

Enjoy a lovely picnic in 1920s attire, at the beautiful Tallac Historic Mansion and grounds, South Lake Tahoe.

Bring a picnic, games, your friends, and experience the Gatsby Tea & Fashion Show (2pm), as well as music, dancing, antiques, historic house tours, vintage auto rides, and treats.

Suggested costume is 1920s-1930s, day wear for warm weather.

While the general festivities are FREE, the Gatsby Tea and Fashion Show is $35/ticket, includes tea, refreshments, and seating.  Contact Joyce via e-mail for tickets:

What to Wear:
This is a summer, daytime event, so wear lightweight, light colored fabrics, floaty cottons and voiles, linen, and lace.  Bring a hat and sensible shoes.  Flapper attire is not quite right for this daytime event.  Here are some suggestions and inspirations for women and men:

Enjoy a rare opportunity to tour the private Memories Antique Clothing Museum with the proprietress. This is a stunning collection of fashions and accessories dating from early 1800s. The tour allows for an up-close look at some stunning reminders of past clothing styles, shoes and beaded purses. Guests will be allowed to interact with the collection
as our hostess describes the history of the garments. We’ll
complete the afternoon with light refreshments and tea served
at the Memories Antique Clothing Museum. This unique
opportunity is just in time for Mother’s Day.

Tour will leave the National Automobile Museum’s parking
lot at 1:30 pm and return at approximately 4:30 pm. The $35
per person fee includes transportation, tour and refreshments.
